I Love Boobies wrote:So, we will have to do NTFS Junction points to run multiple characters, or install multiple clients for each character?
No. You can launch multiple instances of the same install, just like you can today. The Launcher does not change that.
What did you read to make you think you would have to install multiple clients to run multiple characters at the same time? I want to know so that I can fix that up so that others don't follow to the same misguided conclusion. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

You can open the Launcher by starting the Launcher shortcut in the client directory.
1. Navigate to the place you installed the game 2. Find the EVE Online Launcher shortcut 3. Start it

Tippia wrote: It's a multi-machine patch situation.
My scenario is that I have six installations spread over four machines (OSX and bootcamped Windows), and I would prefer not to have a 150MB patch download into a 900MB downloadGǪ
That's a fair point. We will aim at having this supported on the Mac in the near future. In the meantime the workaround would be to patch one client and then put that client on a USB key and move that between your Macs or send it over the network. What you could also do is navigate into the bundle and find the .patch file and manually copy that around. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

Luminocity wrote: One thing I was wondering about though are the client updates. Currently each instance of the same client prompted for an update separately (this is *after* client is started by the "Play" button in the launcher). Is this the case just this time (what with swiching over to use the launcher and all) or will these keep being rolled out the same way in future updates as well?
This is an old patching mechanic we are going to move into the Launcher in the near future. For the initial release, we didn't want to touch too many systems at the same time. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

Thorn Galen wrote:This would probably be great if I was able to download the initial, tiny 3.77Mb Launcher. Alas, somewhere, something is stopping this from happening. Timeouts, over and over and over again. I am able to browse local and international internet, upload and download at very fast speeds. No issues with the link my side. I am in South Africa, perhaps CCP can check their cache proxy ? Something is badly awry.
Just no EVE downloads, not today, for whatever the reason.
There are some issues with the web servers which are being investigated and the downloads use the webservers to get the correct patch. It could be that you're running into issues beacuse of that. Are you still having problems if you try now? Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

I for one have several copies of Eve in different folders as I like different settings for my different accounts due to different usages.
Downloading each patch for each dir is a pain... So i copied the first to the second dir... and now the Patch window never goes away.. even after a client is loaded.
WTH!!!!!
Do you mean that after you click Play, stays open and doesn't close? If so, go into the settings menu for the Launcher and have a look at the startup options in there. There is an option to make it close after clicking Play.

What if clicking on it does nothing?
Then open the EVE folder, and move the .patch file you will find in there out of that folder. Then you will be able to open it.

Drahcir Nasom wrote: Please tell me that this launcher is not going to waste so much time with future patches? Drahcir
First of all, thanks for writing extremely detailed step by step feedback!
This is how it will be for future patches. The one patching to the new Launcher was more complicated because we needed to download the Launcher itself:
If you have unlimited high speed connection:
1. Start client 1,2,3,4 2. Let them download and apply patch 3. Click Play on client 1,2,3,4
If you want to use import/export patches
1. Start client 1 2. Launcher starts and downloads and applies the patch 3. Go to settings 4. Click Export 5. Open client 2,3,4 6. Go to Settings for client 2,3,4 7. Click Import 8. Let it apply the patch 9. Play. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

Hi Vex O'Vexilian,
I understand and apologize for the frustration. Can you tell me what the error you are getting when trying to run the repair tool is?

As of 23:57 GMT we released a new Launcher and a new repair tool to resolve some issues that players have been experiencing during the initial deployment of Crucible 1.5.
Those of you experiencing issues with the Launcher or updating the game, please follow these steps:
1.Reboot the computer. 2.Navigate to the EVE client install folder. 3.Run the Repair tool until it finshes. 4.Run eve.exe from the same folder
We ask people to reboot their computer to make sure that there are no locked files or other processes running while running the repair tool. This would otherwise interfere with the repair tool and prevent the client from updating.
Please let us know if this resolves the issues you are experiencing. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

What version of the Launcher are you running? The latest version is 1.08 and should have this issue resolved.
To get a new version of the launcher simply restart it. If that doesn't work, shut down all running eve clients and launchers and run the repair tool. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

The resetting of settings is an issue we're looking into and in the meantime we have removed the 1.08 update which would support various characters in the path name and cyrillic and making sure that the settings menu still works and various locking issues.
We're holding off on the update for now while we investigate the settings issue.
I'm extremely sorry for this and I apologize for the issues. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

Malachy Kidd wrote:CCP Cascade wrote:I'm extremely sorry for this and I apologize for the issues. Rather than being sorry and apologizing, how about learning from the many, many, MANY past mistakes CCP has made and not doing things that necessitate being sorry and apologizing? As for my issues getting the client to run, I've downloaded the full client and reinstalled-- and it's doing the exact same thing it did after upgrading the old client. As for right now, I cannot connect to EVE. Please remind me why I'm paying for three accounts? Before I call my credit card company and dispute the most recent subscription charges, that is.
It seems that issue you are getting is corrupted data when you attempt to download. There can be multiple causes for this:
- Antivirus or firewall blocking the download
- Router fireware out of date and causing the download to drop packets
- Bad connection to the internet
- Corruption of the data on the CDN (Content Delivery Network) that hosts the file you are trying to get
It would be helpful if you could have a look at the three first options and if you don't find any problems, I would suggest that you contact customer support, by filing a petition, who will ask you from where you are connecting, what ISP you're using so that we can send this data to our CDN provider.

I got a reply from Eurosecure (manufacturers of NOD and ESET) today:
Quote:Just a little update. We are aware of the issue and will look into it. It will take probably a bit longer (weeks perhaps). In the mean time, as a workaround it should be sufficient to remove the application in question (repair.exe, Launcher.exe) from Protocol Filtering.
Here is a knowledgebase article on how to do just that: http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2869 Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

I would suggest that those of you who have issues with your antivirus/firewalls contact the customer support for the software. They are usually quite helpful and can tell you how you can configure it so that it lets EVE through. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

Einar Matveinen wrote:I've solved my problem, the only way of updating the launcher itself with my antivirus software running is excluding the launcher subdirectory in the eve directory tree from scanning. This is not optimal but EvE Launcher is a reliable application , and after the updating the eve.exe'll be scanned by the antivirus when it'll be executed.
Can you tell me what antivirus program you're using? It would also be helpful if you would contact customer support for your antivirus and tell them about this problem. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |
